The South Bend Police Department congratulates K9 Boba on receiving his Probationary Driver's License from the State of Indiana!

Boba is the first of seven SBPD K9s to become a licensed driver, paving the way for countless police dogs across the country that are eager to reach new speeds without risk of paw fatigue.

Per the new city policy, Boba's handler, Lt. Bryan Miller, must be seated in the front passenger seat while Boba is operating a police vehicle for the next 180 days.

After that time, Boba is free to conduct solo patrols behind the wheel, which may involve visiting local coffee drive-thrus for a pup cup.

Congratulations, Boba… and Happy April 1, South Bend!

South Bend, please join us in congratulating David "Bub" Ryans on his retirement from the South Bend Police Department!

Officer Ryans began his SBPD career in 1997. During his time in policing, he worked on the SWAT Team and in N.E.S.T. Most recently, he worked in 1st Detail Patrol.

However, most people in the community will recognize him from his involvement with the South Bend Police Athletic League.

Officer Ryans spent countless hours in the ring, coaching PAL's youth boxers.

Thank you, Officer Ryans, for your dedication to our department and city! Best of luck in your next chapter!
