Sec. 14-6. - It is a violation for a child fifteen (15), sixteen (16), or seventeen (17) years of age to be in a public place: Between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday; After 11:00 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday or; Before 5:00 a.m. on Monday through Friday.
Sec. 14-7. - It is a violation for a child under fifteen (15) years of age to be in a public place after 11:00 p.m. or before 5:00 a.m. on any day.
On June 8th and 9th 2017, the Strategic Focus Unit (SFU) along with uniform patrol officers performed a curfew sweep throughout the city. 23-juveniles were detained for violating the city curfew ordinance, ages ranging from 12 to 17. Nearly all were transported home and released to an adult family member, and cited for the violation. Two of the juveniles were taken to a Safe Station-as no adult family member could be located.
Parents, it is your obligation to know: where your kids are, what they are doing, and who they are with. As a police department, we want the kids in our community safe, as well as a safe community for all. We do not want, and should not have our children as victims, witnesses or suspects.
