Detectives Arrest Man In Connection to March 31, 2019 Shooting

The South Bend Police Investigative Bureau announces a man connected to the shooting of 22 year old male on March 31, 2019 is in custody.
 
St. Joseph County Police arrested 31 year old Derrick Lee on unrelated warrants Monday. South Bend detectives arrested Lee Tuesday for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and carrying a handgun without a license.
 
On May 31, 2019, South Bend patrol officers responded to the hospital for a walk-in shooting victim. The incident took place in the 1700 block of N. Kaley around 10pm. The victim had non life threatening wounds to the wrist and knee.
 
The victim reported he was in the area to meet with a female he met online. He said he was approached by a black male with a gun who demanded everything when he arrived to meet the woman. That’s when shots were fired.

This arrest was made possible thanks to the dedicated, diligent and focused work by detectives.

This case has been forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office for review. Please be advised Mr. Lee is presumed innocent until and unless charged and convicted in a court of law.
