Wednesday is the last day of school in South Bend and the South Bend Police Department wants to remind parents/guardians of the curfew ordinances in place for those under the age of 18.
The city ordinance that applied to children are as follows:
Sec. 14-6. - It is a violation for a child fifteen (15), sixteen (16), or seventeen (17) years of age to be in a public place: Between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday; After 11:00 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday or; Before 5:00 a.m. on Monday through Friday.
Sec. 14-7. - It is a violation for a child under fifteen (15) years of age to be in a public place after 11:00 p.m. or before 5:00 a.m. on any day.
Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski reminds parents it is their obligation to know where their kids are, what they are doing, and who they are with.
“As a police department, we want the kids in our community safe, as well as a safe community for all. We do not want, and should not have our children as victims, witnesses or suspects,” Ruszkowski said.
