2016 SBPD Award Recipients

The South Bend Police Department announces its 2016 recognition awards for sworn officers and civilians with the police department. Every day, officers and civilians work together to protect lives and property, reduce crime and enhance police-community relationships. More than 60 officers and civilians are recognized for their bravery, lifesaving skills, community involvement and overall performance.

On December 20, 2017, the South Bend Board of Public Safety approved the promotions of 12 South Bend Police officers. The promotions include the ranks of captain, lieutenant and sergeant.

South Bend Police Department and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #36 will hold its annual Tribute and Memorial Service as part of National Police Officers Week for the 15 South Bend officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

SBPD to Participate in Community Event May 13

The South Bend Police Department, along with other citizens groups, invites members of the community to attend a neighborhood event on the city’s east side May 13, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Robinson Learning Center (921 N. Eddy). Refreshments will be provided.

Stay Safe When Making Online Purchases

The South Bend Police Department reminds the community to be safe when making online purchase. Department detectives are currently investigating at least three armed robberies over the last three weeks involving online transactions.

In these cases, the victims arranged a sales transaction through Facebook’s online market. The suspect(s) asked to meet the victims in the area of Ewing and Walnut where the victim was then robbed at gunpoint.

Halloween Safety Tips

The South Bend Police Department would like to remind parents, trick-or-treaters, drivers and community members that Monday, October 31st from 5pm to 7pm is the official Trick-or Treat hours for South Bend. Please follow these safety tips to make our community a SAFE place to celebrate Halloween.
Adults:
• Welcome trick-or-treaters with your porch lights and exterior lights on.
• Keep pets away from costumed children so as to not startle the family dog that may not recognize children in costume.

SOUTH BEND GROUP VIOLENCE INTERVENTION TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE THURSDAY 10-27-16

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and the South Bend Police Department announced Thursday their participation in the White House-led Police Data Initiative. South Bend joins 128 other agencies across the country in taking concrete steps to share data with their communities regarding policing practices.

Shooting 700 S. Webster Street South Bend, Indiana

On 10-08-16 shortly before 8:00 pm officers were dispatched to the 700 block of S. Wester Street to shots fired, followed by a female injured by gunfire. Arriving officers were directed to 714 S. Webster Street upon entering the residence, officers spoke with Angelique Molina FH24 who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Angelique was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
